Oscar

The "Oscar" is the most prestigious annual award in American cinema.

The award has been presented since 1929 by the American Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

The "Oscar" is awarded in 24 main categories.

For each category there is a group of Academy members who select the nominees – actors choose actors, directors choose directors and so on, while the best picture is chosen by everyone together.

The "Oscar" itself is a gilded statuette of a knight holding a sword. The figurine is 34 cm tall and weighs almost 4 kg. It is made of a special alloy – britannium.

The Walt Disney company has the most nominations – 64. In addition, the company is the leader in the number of awards received – 26 "Oscars". Among foreign countries, the leaders are France (32 films nominated for an "Oscar") and Italy (10 awards).

It is only possible to attend the award ceremony by personal invitation. Tickets to the "Oscars" cannot be bought, as they are not sold to the general public.
