Ivan Marchuk

Ivan Marchuk – People's Artist of Ukraine, laureate of the Shevchenko National Prize of Ukraine (1997), honorary citizen of Kyiv and Ternopil, member of the Golden Guild of the Roman Academy of Contemporary Art. He is included in the list of 100 living geniuses (according to The Daily Telegraph).
He was born on May 12, 1936 in the village of Moskalivka, Lanivtsi district, Ternopil region, into the family of a well-known weaver. In 1951-1956, he studied at the Ivan Trush Lviv School of Decorative and Applied Arts. In 1959-1965 – at the Lviv Institute of Decorative and Applied Arts. In 1965, the artist moved to Kyiv. In 1979, his first official solo exhibition took place in Moscow. 1989-2001 – a period of emigration (Australia, Canada, USA). 2006 – the International Academy of Contemporary Art in Rome admitted Marchuk to the ranks of the "Golden Guild" and elected him an honorary member of the academic council. 2013 – 2018 – a large exhibition tour in Europe, Asia and Africa. 2016 – the exhibition "Genotype of Freedom" took place in the European Parliament.
Ivan Marchuk divides his work into 20 creative cycles: "Voice of My Soul", "Landscape", "Portrait", "Blossoming", "Shevchenkiana", "Color Preludes", "New Expressions", "Still Life", "White Planet I", "White Planet II", "Dreams Overflow Their Banks", "A Look into Infinity".
The artist's body of work – about 5,000 works, more than 150 solo and 50 group exhibitions.
